Chapter 270 - 270 A person Caishen didn't like
270: A person Caishen didn’t like.
270: A person Caishen didn’t like.
It was four o’clock in the morning when Caishen was awakened by the pressing need to relieve himself.
He noticed the open laptop laying on the bed between his legs and those of his wife.
As usual, the game that she had lost herself in was paused.
He looked at her in wonder before picking the laptop up and setting it on a table beside his side of the bed.
Curious, he looked at the game because he had noticed the character looked different from usual.
His eyes took in the outfit and the weapon, plus the stats in the corner which said, eighty one kills.
“A shooting game.” he whispered and sighed.
It reminded him of the words of the psychologist he was set to meet at around nine in his office.
When he explained to her a few things about Alix, she had asked him how she channeled her anger.
The answer was this, in his opinion.
She channeled her anger into violent games.
He sighed again and moved his body only for one of his hands to touch something that made a noise.
When he lifted it to his eyes, he saw that it was a candy wrapper.
He didn’t even have to think or wonder who the culprit was.
He clenched the candy wrapper in his hands and it made a little noise again.
Alix, turned her body to his side and mumbled an unclear protest, evidently displeased by the unwelcome noise made by the candy wrapper.
“You are the criminal and yet you have the guts to protest.” he muttered in amusement.
As slowly and silently as he could, he got out of the bed and took the noisy candy wrapper with him.
Tomorrow, he told himself, he would have another talk with her about the dangers of too much gaming.
Not that any of his talks ever yielded the desired result.
When it came to games, she was unapologetically stubborn.
In the morning, however, he was reluctant to wake her up because he assumed that she had not got enough sleep at night.
So, he picked up baby and left for the office.
Two hours later, nanny Luo dragged Alix out of bed, saw it that she showered and sent her off to the car as if she was a little kid that was trying to dodge school.
“Goodmorning young madam, where to this morning?” Uncle Ju asked.
Alix searched for the name of the orphanage and she showed it’s location to the driver.
“Here, I am not in a hurry.
Take your time uncle Ju.” She closed her eyes and somehow went back to sleep successfully.
Meanwhile, Caishen finally successfully met up with the elusive professor He Xintian, the psychologist he hoped would take on Alix as a client.
The doctor showed up early, an hour before their supposed meet up time.
She was not in a hurry however, and she stayed outside Caishen’s office, waiting patiently.
When he found out, Caishen did not allow her to sit outside for much longer because she was an important guest.
Their first meeting was quite unique.
They both watched each other carefully, observing and studying as they tried to get a read on each other.
She was a middle aged woman, he noticed, however the hair on her head was all greyish white.
He thought it was a rather interesting choice.
She probably thought that it made her appear more distinguished.
Her outfit of choice was a suit, a red one with a white shirt on the inside.
Even the thick coat she was wearing over it was red, just like her shoes.
None of the things she had on her body were cheap.
Then again, he thought, with how much she used to charge her clients, it was no surprise that she had money.
After looking at her appearance and making all the judgements he wanted, Caishen finally met her eyes.
She was studying him too, and he didn’t like that very much.
In fact, he had a feeling that he would not like her.
He didn’t like anyone that could read him.
“Thank you for coming, professor He.
I am very grateful that you have decided to honor my invitation.” he addressed her politely.
She nodded and then folded her hands on one of her legs which was crossed over the other.
She smiled and said, “So, what does my physical appearance tell you Mr.
Zhang?” “That you are a woman that likes the finer things in life and that you are recording this conversation so I would like to ask that you turn off your recording device.” he bluntly answered.
She raised her brows curiously, then laughed softly.
Her right hand reached into her pocket and she brought out a recorder which she placed down on the table.
“You are as sharp as they say you are Mr.
Zhang.
Please understand that it’s not you that I am trying to record, it’s simply a habit of mine.
It’s something I employ with my clients as well.” He placed his hands on his table leaned forward and said, “I hope you will not be doing that with my wife.
Records like that can be found and used against one.
Which is why, if you do decide to accept my offer, your sessions with my wife will be held at our home or her school to ensure maximum privacy.” “I am curious Mr.
Zhang, have you discussed this matter with your wife?” Professor He asked curiously after making an observation.
“I will talk to her if you say yes.
I do not want to stir her up over nothing if you are unwilling to work with her.” He answered sincerely.
Professor He nodded slowly as she looked around Caishen’s office.
She took in everything before turning back to him.
“You don’t have a single picture of your wife in your office.
Not even one of your wedding day, courtship, nothing.
Is there something about your marriage that I should know?” Caishen had just started rotating a pen around with his fingers when she asked that question and he stopped.
The pen dropped on to the table but he didn’t pick it back up.
Instead he shot the professor an irritated look.
“I did not invite you here to talk about my marriage professor He.
I invited you here to help my wife get over her childhood trauma and deal with her fears.” Professor He gestured dismissively and she said, “Right, her fear of suffocation, the piano and all that.
While I understand your sentiment to keep your marital life private, unfortunately it will not be so as long as I am your wife’s doctor.
You cannot dictate what issues I will help her deal with.
Therapy has no map, you follow the direction in which it leads you.
I have only asked because the absence of any traces of your wife in your personal space is telling.
There is a dissonance here between the man that is willing to spend millions to get me to help his wife and the man you are as a husband.” Just like that, Caishen knew why he had a feeling that he would not like her.
Indeed, she was reading him.
Caishen frowned and he said in a gravelly voice, “Professor He, you are not here for me.
If I needed your help, I would have made that clear from the onset.
My marriage is fine for your information, I do not need to plaster my walls with pictures of my wife in order to assure anyone of that fact.”
What do you think?
