Chapter 1038: Sensitive Period
"If there's truth to the rumors, we cannot sit back and turn a blind eye to the situation in Pangea. Under the Skymagia Laws, we are obligated to liberate the witches, should it be proven that they are subjected to unjustified discrimination and oppression," Divine Attendant Alecto mentioned.
"That's right," Guinevere Tempest nodded before calming stating, "In normal times, this would have been a good reason for us to send our forces to Gehenna and claim Pangea for ourselves."
"However, the growing friction with the Divinesun Star Kingdom has put a halt to all of our plans on Gehenna and Pangea. We have already been warned not to cause any trouble during these sensitive times."
"Even if we have royal cause on our side, it'll be difficult to escape the wrath of the Skymagia Royal Family if we spark a Realm War around this time," Guinevere calmly glanced at her Divine Attendants as she said this.
At the same time, everyone understood her intent—she was warning them not to act on their own and provoke Gehenna unless she explicitly gave the order.
They couldn't touch and Gehenna and Pangea during this period.
"That being the case, what can we do with this information?" Guinevere casually quizzed her trusted retainers.
Everyone furrowed their brows before Divine Attendant Sabine came up with an answer first.
"We can't provoke a conflict with Gehenna, but that doesn't stop us from openly sending people there to verify the rumors. I'm sure the other Calamity Witches are also having the same thoughts."
"Kekeke, if we formally inform Gehenna of our visit and reason, the Great Devils will have no choice but to receive our people," Divine Attendant Fleur chuckled before adding, "More importantly, the mastermind behind the rumors will be in trouble."
"I'm sure that once the Great Devils become aware of the rumors within our realm, they will find out the mastermind and deal with the person for us. Kekeke, I will be pitying the fool who tried to borrow our hands to deal with their enemy."
"However, that person deserves it. How dare they try to make use of us with such a low-level tactic? They are seriously looking down on our intelligence." Divine Attendant Fleur snickered arrogantly.
"That aside, I'm more interested in the so-called lord of witches," Divine Attendant Erika suddenly commented with interest, adding, "I wonder what kind of person they are to force such tactics against them."
Once Divine Attendant Erika mentioned this, the others also developed interest and curiosity toward the rumored lord of witches.
After all, if the mastermind behind the rumors was forced to use such tactics against the person, then the so-called lord of witches was in a position where the mastermind couldn't deal with the person directly.
Considering the mastermind was most likely one of the Great Devils, the lord of witches might be as powerful as a Great Devil or had the protection of one or more.
Perhaps there was a disagreement among the Great Devils, prompting the mastermind to resort to such underhanded tactics?
"Now that you brought it up, Erika, I am also curious about this lord of witches. How did this person become untouchable to a Great Devil? And did the other Great Devils also just tolerate this person's rising existence?" Divine Attendant Moira uttered curiously.
"Won't we know the truth once we send people to investigate it?" Divine Attendant Erika replied before turning to the Storm Calamity Witch, solemnly requesting, "My Lady, please allow me to lead the investigation team."
"I swear I will get to the bottom of this matter without provoking a conflict with Gehenna," she added.
"Hey, that's not fair, Erika," another Divine Attendant, Rowena, complained before insisting, "Please allow me to lead the investigation team, my Lady."
"No, allow me!" another Divine Attendant volunteered.
Within moments, all twelve Divine Attendants expressed their interest in leading the investigation team.
However, Guinevere Tempest shook her head.
"No one will be going. It's already too late to send a team now. The other Calamity Witches have already sent their representatives on their way, so it doesn't make sense for me to send anyone else," she stated.
Having too many representatives from Nightmare visiting Gehenna was not a good thing.
Involving too many variables also meant increasing the risks.
As such, it was better not to send anyone to avoid any accountability in case the other parties messed up. After all, the prideful witches could feel offended at the slightest disrespect.
Even if Guinevere Tempest trusted her Divine Attendants, she couldn't trust other Calamity Witches' Divine Attendants. If they made a mistake on their visit, she didn't want her people and territory to be dragged down by the involved parties.
Although the Divine Attendants were disappointed in Guinevere's decision, they did not voice their complaints. They could only hear and obey.
"I understand, my Lady," the Divine Attendants said.
"The meeting will end here," Guinevere announced before dismissing everyone, "You can all go back to your work now, and if you have time, cultivate hard. It would be great if any of you could ascend to Rank 7 before a full-scale war with the Divinesun Star Kingdom erupts."
"Yes, my Lady," the Divine Attendants answered seriously.
Shortly after they left, Guinevere sighed.
She had been scheming against Gehenna for a very long time. If not for the Skymagia Star Kingdom's deteriorating relationship with the Divinesun Star Kingdom, she would have already pushed forward the next step in her plans.
Unfortunately, the Skymagia Royal Family had already warned its vassal star realm not to start any private Realm Wars.
Furthermore, they were also told to build up as much strength as possible.
At this point, a full-scale war with the Divinesun Star Kingdom was inevitable. They were practically in the preparation stage.
It was a very sensitive period; the war could erupt as early as tomorrow or as late as a hundred years later. Both sides were just waiting for the perfect excuse or reason to start it.
Once the war erupts, everyone would be dragged into it—all except Gehenna. It had received a special pardon thanks to the background of a single person.
'Hecate…!' Guinevere bit her lips in frustration.
What do you think?
