Chapter 1037: Storm Calamity Witch
Roughly 300,000km outside the Gehenna Star Realm, a black starship was hiding with a small group of rocky extrasolar objects, periodically receiving information from the Titanfall Territory via mana transmission technology.
Ever since Helcan visited Scum's Favor in the Everfrost Realm, he could not find the courage to return to Gehenna, only linger outside of it.
Although his secretive act didn't violate the contract due to the loopholes he exploited, if the other Great Devils found out about it, his act of betrayal would turn them into his enemies.
Nevertheless, Helcan couldn't believe what he had learned in the past few days. It was quite frightening how much had changed during his absence.
Due to the celestial movements of the cosmos, the return trip was longer than the forward trip to the Everfrost Realm. Even so, the round trip was still considered very short—at least, according to his perspective of time.
It was normal for visiting trips to other realms to take dozens or even hundreds of years, so two months was indeed very short.
However, it was also within these two particular months that Gehenna completely changed. In fact, it even changed hands! Great Devil Thanatos was still the Realm Ruler, but he was beneath the new Heavenly Devil!
Helcan had heard about the swift growth of Soul Masters, but he never imagined it to be this swift.
How was it possible for a Peak Demigod to become a Peak Divine Knight within two months?!
This kind of frightening growth was mind-boggling and absurd!
Nevertheless, Helcan didn't regret his action. In fact, he felt like he had made the right choice. The grudge between him and Vaan Raphna couldn't be written off with a simple apology and compensation.
The enemy had to be destroyed at all costs.
However, the person's growth was also too quick! Given the present circumstances, even the borrowed power of Nightmare and Hades might not be enough!
Still, Helcan thought it was also fine as long as Nightmare and Hades were dragged into the mess.
After all, a three-way Realm War between Nightmare, Hades, and Gehenna would undoubtedly attract the displeasure of the Skymagia Royalty, given its present conflict with the Divinesun Star Kingdom.
'How can I make the Divine Lord of the Skymagia Royal Family point her sword at Vaan Raphna?' Helcan pondered this issue before wondering, 'Rumors should have spread to Nightmare and Hades by now, right?'
Indeed, the scavengers from the Everfrost Realm had been diligent with their work. Helcan's malicious rumors had successfully spread across Nightmare and Hades in the past three days and even attracted the attention of the local Divine Beings.
Unfortunately, Helcan greatly underestimated the intelligence of his neighbors, especially the Storm Calamity Witch of Nightmare, Guinevere Tempest.
Within the Territory of Endless Storms, Guinevere Tempest held her rare meeting in the Thundercloud Hall of her Storm Palace amidst the neverending rage of the gloomy grey sky.
Beyond the Thundercloud Hall's glass panel, the outside world seemed drowned in the sky's heavy tears. The winds and rains ravaged the lands below and obscured the heavens above.
However, their power and noises were still overshadowed by the deafening cackles of thunder and brilliant flashes of lightning.
The frequent strips of blue, white, and purple that briefly spanned across the entire sky like the roots of a world tree carried the power to annihilate the whole world, and yet the gathering people within the Thundercloud Hall remained unperturbed by their uncontrolled destructiveness.
Everyone in the hall had long grown accustomed to the gloomy sky's regular demonstration of power. They knew the sky's wrath would never strike the Storm Palace.
As such, they did not fear it and even found tranquility reveling in its beauty.
Guinevere Tempest languidly lay sideways on her crystal throne as her Divine Attendants arrived for their meeting. Despite the chilly weather, the lazy beauty wore a loose nightgown-like black dress.
Everyone who could attend her meeting was among her most trusted retainers. None of them were below Rank 6; they had all become Divine Witches under her guidance.
Shortly after the twelve Divine Attendants arrived, the meeting began, starting with the most mundane subjects related to the progress and development of the territory.
Guinevere Tempest sluggishly yawned and cleaned her ear with a pinky, clearly showing her disinterest and boredom. She even went as far as flicking her earwax onto the spotless crystal floor in front of her Divine Attendants.
Even so, no one showed her any discourtesy or disapproval during their routine report.
After all, Guinevere Tempest was a genuine Rank 7 Divine Being and part of the elite class within the Skymagia Star Kingdom. However, even among Rank 7 Divine Beings in the star kingdom, she held a high rank due to her slight ties to the Divine Protector of the Skymagia Royal Family.
"Now, onto today's main topic—there have been suspicious rumors spreading across the realm and causing unrest within the cities under our rule. There have also been reports of similar situations happening in other territories."
When Divine Attendant Sabine brought up this subject, Guinevere's droopy eyes finally sparkled with interest.
"Finally, something interesting to discuss," she uttered before quizzing everyone, "What do you all think of this matter?"
"There's not much to think about, my Lady. It's obviously a trick to incite a conflict between Gehenna and Nightmare," Divine Attendant Sabine immediately replied.
"I agree, my Lady," Divine Attendant Fleur acknowledged before adding with disdain, "Moreover, the mastermind behind these rumors is definitely someone from Gehenna. Only the idiots from there still think Pangea's existence is a tightly kept secret."
"Very good," Guinevere smiled before asking, "Anyone have anything else to add?"
"Although there's ill intent behind the rumor, I believe there's something truth in it, my Lady. After all, even if the mastermind was an idiot, the person couldn't have been stupid enough to use a complete lie; the effect would become counter-productive," Divine Attendant Erika explained.
There was a price for looking down on them too much, after all.
Using a complete lie would only draw Nightmare's hostility toward the mastermind and not the rumored lord of witches.
As such, Divine Attendant Erika was inclined to believe the rumors were partially true.
However, that was also the crux of the problem.
What do you think?
