Chapter 24 - 24 24 Someone Wants the Cute Baby Dead
24: Chapter 24 Someone Wants the Cute Baby Dead 24: Chapter 24 Someone Wants the Cute Baby Dead Jian Si hadn’t had a chance to clear her thoughts when suddenly, with a ‘boom,’ Lu Yanbai collapsed to the ground.
His tiny body curled up, his little face deathly pale, lips turning cyanotic, hands clutching his neck as he desperately gasped for air.
“Xiao Bai…”
“Xiao Bai!”
Jian Si and Lu Youting exclaimed in unison.
Lu Youting immediately squatted down, picked up Lu Yanbai from the ground, and laid him on the couch, then roared at the maid, “He’s having an asthma attack, hurry up and get his medicine.”
Frightened and flustered, the maid scrambled to find the medicine.
But after turning the medicine box inside out, she couldn’t find the asthma medication and was at a loss for what to do.
“Sir, the medicine, the medicine is gone!
I remember we always kept it in the medicine box, but now it’s missing.”
Lu Youting’s hawk-like eyes filled with a frost-like gloom, his normally commanding face twisted like Satan from Hell, instilling terror.
“Call Lu Ya, tell him to bring the medicine immediately.”
“Okay!”
The maid quickly went to make the call.
Lu Yanbai lay on the couch, his little face turning increasingly ashen due to the lack of oxygen, eyes rolling back as if he could suffocate at any moment.
Despite being accustomed to countless such scenes,
Jian Si still trembled with fear upon seeing her son in such a state for the first time.
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to remain calm.
She walked over, pushed Lu Youting aside, helped Lu Yanbai sit up, leaned him forward, and while helping him breathe, said to Lu Youting, “Xiao Bai’s bedside drawer has a compound ipratropium bromide solution and other short-acting bronchodilators, go get them quickly!”
Without questioning, Lu Youting hurried upstairs and indeed found the medicine in the bedside table.
Jian Si skillfully placed the nozzle in Lu Yanbai’s mouth and pressed, “Xiao Bai, breathe in quickly, take deep breaths…”
The instinct to survive prompted Lu Yanbai to inhale deeply.
After a while, Lu Yanbai’s condition finally improved.
Although his face was still pale, the cyanosis had slowly faded, and his breathing became much smoother.
“Weren’t you the one who said he could be discharged?
Why has it come to this?” Lu Youting asked with a hint of irritation, a shadow looming over him.
Jian Si’s concerns were all focused on Lu Yanbai and she wasn’t in the mood to argue, “Help me call Assistant Lu and ask him to prepare something as I instruct.”
Lu Youting, enveloped in a cold aura, hesitated briefly before dialing Lu Ya’s number.
Jian Si gently patted Lu Yanbai’s back to help his breathing while taking the phone and telling Lu Ya what to buy.
Once Lu Ya had brought back the items, Jian Si took Lu Yanbai to his room, sat him up in bed, and skillfully gave him an intravenous injection.
Watching her lively son suddenly become lifeless pained Jian Si deeply, her eyes welling up with tears, “Xiao Bai, you rest for a bit, Mom will stay by your side the whole time.”
Lu Yanbai obediently closed his eyes, seemingly exhausted from the ordeal, and soon fell asleep.
Sitting by the bed, Jian Si held Lu Yanbai’s hand, her heart still racing from the scare, thinking back to the earlier incident with dread.
Luckily, she had placed extra medication in her bag after finding out about Xiao Bai’s asthma.
Otherwise, she dared not think of the consequences.
She had to catch whoever it was that had tried to harm her son, no matter what.
“Is there surveillance in the house?”
Lu Youting didn’t understand why she would suddenly ask this, but answered truthfully, “Yes!”
“And the kitchen?”
“The kitchen too!”
Only then did Jian Si slowly suggest, “I suspect someone has tampered with the soup.”
“What did you say?
Say that again?” Lu Youting’s handsome face became shrouded in malice.
Jian Si said gravely, “I tasted something else in the soup just now, but before I could figure out what it was, Xiao Bai fell ill.
And coincidentally, his medicine disappeared.
Don’t you find that very strange?”
“You mean someone poisoned Xiao Bai?
Why am I fine?” Lu Youting’s handsome brows furrowed, a bloodthirsty glint suddenly flaring in his eyes.
Jian Si shook her head.
“Not poison!
Does Xiao Bai have allergies to anything?
Like pollen, for instance.”
As if recalling something, Lu Youting’s eyes suddenly narrowed.
“Yes, he’s allergic to honey.”
Jian Si’s face turned visibly colder.
“That’s exactly it!
Allergies can trigger an asthma attack, and if they’re severe, they can even be life-threatening.
Take a sample of the soup and get it tested at the hospital to see if there’s any honey in it.”
Without hesitation, Lu Youting turned around and headed for the kitchen.
Regrettably, by the time he made it to the kitchen, the soup can had been washed clean, and the uneaten soup had all been poured into the sink and washed away.
Even the soup Jian Si had left unfinished on the table had been cleared away.
If he had had any doubts about Jian Si’s words before, at this moment, Lu Youting was completely convinced.
He narrowed his elongated eyes, which turned devilish, and roared, “Who cleaned up the kitchen?”
The little maid mopping the floor was so frightened that her legs gave out, almost causing her to kneel.
“I…
I cleaned it up…”
Lu Youting’s face turned icy.
“Who allowed you to dump the soup?”
The maid broke out in a cold sweat and stiffly said, “Sister Xiang said the house should not keep leftovers from the previous day, so we clean up any uneaten food after each meal.”
Hearing the commotion in the kitchen, Sister Xiang hurried over and bowed her head.
“Sir, it was your rule, have you forgotten?”
Lu Youting’s chest tightened with anger.
Even though he was aware that someone wanted to deliberately destroy the evidence, he had nothing to say.
Furious, he left the kitchen and went to pull up the surveillance footage.
Coincidentally, the kitchen camera had mysteriously broken that morning and had not been repaired.
The living room camera worked fine, but since many people had come in and out of the kitchen all afternoon, it was impossible to determine who had added honey to the soup.
There was no definite time when the medicine cabinet had been tampered with, which made it even harder to investigate.
Lu Youting’s face darkened in an instant, looking as though he had emerged from the pits of Hell.
When he learned of this outcome, Jian Si didn’t seem too surprised.
“I predicted this!
Whoever acted must have prepared thoroughly; how could they let you catch them so easily?”
Lu Youting gritted his teeth.
“None of them can stay!”
Jian Si hurriedly stopped him.
“Even if you replace them, if someone is intent on harming Xiao Bai, they will find a way to infiltrate again.
Rather than constantly being on edge, it’d be better to catch the mastermind behind the scenes.”
Lu Youting raised an eyebrow.
“Do you have a way?”
Jian Si didn’t answer but responded with an enigmatic smile.
Unable to swallow his anger, Lu Youting called Lu Ya and had him investigate all the household staff’s backgrounds and connections.
That night, Jian Si stayed by Lu Yanbai’s side.
Lu Youting, uneasy, refused to leave and simply brought his computer to work in the room.
Afraid that Jian Sichen’s call might arouse Lu Youting’s suspicions, Jian Si secretly sent a message to Jian Sichen, telling him to rest early and contact her tomorrow.
In the dead of night, by the time Lu Youting finished his work, Jian Si had already fallen asleep on the bed.
The dim light enveloped her, casting a soft glow over her, accentuating her delicate features and creamy skin; every fine hair was distinctly outlined.
Lu Youting couldn’t help but be spellbound.
This was the first time he had looked at her so closely since their reunion.
She seemed a little different from his memory.
Just as the atmosphere was right, suddenly, Jian Si’s phone by her side ‘dinged’ with a notification.
Lu Youting glanced over subconsciously, only to see a message pop up on the screen: “Sisi, it’s Ah Che, this is my WeChat, add me.”
What do you think?
