Chapter 1374: Checking out the book store
Brother's Collection:
"Thanks for buying it. I'm leaving then," I said to the old man Martin.
The old man's eyes flickered. He thinks it's not every day you can meet Wizard seeds, especially those who come from a humble background.
"Young man, if you want, you can spend some time here reading books," he said.
Hearing this, I paused my movements. I'm still not clear about the old man's identity. I felt it would be better to discuss it with Manager Lara.
"Thanks for the offer, shop owner. But I'll come some other day," I replied to him.
The old man was disappointed, but he didn't press further. He could tell that the young man was cautious.
"Okay, you can visit whenever you want," the old man replied.
Then I nodded to him before exiting the shop. The shop owner was kind, but I'm not going to trust him that easily. Then I booked a flying cab after coming to the main street.
About 20 minutes later,
I returned to the Silver Tower. On the way, I was cautious. There was no uneasiness; I had thought people from the Black Tower might hinder me.
But thanks to the mask on my face, no one knew about my real identity. Then I realized the old man would have found out that I'm from the Silver Tower, as my mage robe exposed me.
It could have caused him to act better. After casting aside the thoughts, I entered the tower and went to my room.
A few days passed in the blink of an eye.
Underground storage room:
I have been following the routine of practicing inside the mana chamber and doing appraisal work in the underground storage room.
Yet there was no sign of visits from other wizards. Even Wilfred Cox, Susan Park, and Jason Nicholson seemed disappointed.
More importantly, I was hoping to see other wizard seeds who were truly powerful. It's a pity that they were yet to return from the mission.
Then I continued to focus on the work after removing the thoughts. I picked up a black slab and used the probe function on it. The system results showed that it belonged to a tiny part of an aircraft carrier.
"Aircraft carrier," I uttered in surprise.
Because I had never seen one in this magic city. I don't know why, but I've been feeling bored for the past few days. It's good to explore the magic city and places around it.
The last time I went outside the Silver Tower was to meet old man Martin. I never visited him again. I raised my head and stopped looking at the black slab.
According to Manager Lara, old man Martin was not an ordinary wizard. He had retired from a respectable position, but she didn't reveal further news.
Then she told me that he is a good person, a worthy connection to make. It's just that he was focused on improving his understanding of gravity rule power these days. He forgot about the book shop.
Then I removed the thoughts and decided to visit the shop post-noon. Besides, I wanted to read some books as well.
Post-noon,
I came to the lobby and informed Manager Lara. She came quickly. Upon seeing Vincent Carey, her eyes flashed with surprise.
"Have you finally made up your mind to go outside?" she asked.
She knows about Vincent Carey's daily schedule; ever since Lord Charlotte told him to focus on becoming an official member first, he has been using the mana chamber daily.
On the other hand, I nodded to her before taking out the black slab.
"Lord Lara, check this slab. It appears to be a piece of some machine," I said to her.
"Oh," her eyes flickered with surprise.
She took the slab and touched the surface. She then smiled before saying, "It's a piece of junk. No one is going to buy it."
Hearing that, I'm stunned. Then I shook my head and replied, "I'm not selling it. I'm just curious; I have not seen any big flying machine before."
Lara was taken aback. She then looked at me with surprise.
She said, "I didn't expect you to figure out this as well. It's true that there are giant machines, but I can't tell you right now. When you become an official member, you will know."
I wasn't surprised; I suspected the same thing. She wouldn't disclose restricted information to me.
"Alright, I'm going to the bookstore. I'm leaving then," I said to her before taking the piece of black slab and storing it inside the storage bracelet.
Manager Lara nodded before going to her office. Then I took out the mask and wore it on my face.
Twenty minutes later,
I came to the "Brother's Collection" shop. When I walked into the place, I saw there were a few people inside the shop, reading some books.
"Young man Vince. Welcome to the shop," someone called out.
For a few seconds, I didn't react. Then I realized it's my other name. I looked towards the source of the voice and saw old man Martin walking towards me.
"Vince, I had thought you would visit my shop sooner, but I didn't expect it to take several days for you to come here," old man Martin said with a smile.
But in his heart, he knew that the young man had never stepped out of the Silver Tower since that day.
Hearing old man Martin speaking, I sorted out my thoughts quickly.
"I have come here to read some books," I replied to him.
"Good, you can look around the shop," Martin said with a smile. He didn't say anything about the young man wearing the mask.
"Thanks," I uttered before walking into the shop. The next second, I found multiple gazes on me. My mouth twitched; I wanted to remove the mask, but I couldn't do it here.
I had already become famous, and I didn't want any commotion to happen. So I ignored people's gazes and started to walk around. The bookstore was long and spacious, like a small library.
There were rows of shelves where the majority of the book collection was housed. I saw there were study areas and some quiet places to sit and read.
Then I walked up to the nearest shelves to pick a random book. It was a book about tourist places. I shook my head and placed the book back. Then I began to look at other books.
A good book caught my attention; it was about the famous ruins near the magic city.
"How long has it been since I visited the ruins?" I asked myself in my heart.
I picked up the book and went to the study desk at the corner of the room. There was no one there; no one would come to bother me.
After arriving there, I sat in the armchair with a study desk. Then I placed the book on the desk and began to read it.
The people who were paying attention earlier thought some weirdo had come, so they minded their own business. On the other hand, old man Martin raised his eyebrows in surprise.
He knew about all the books here, so without looking at the book, he knew what book Vincent Carey chose to read. The color and size of the book gave it away.
"So he is interested in the ruins," Martin thought.
But he was not surprised because he knew those without a background could only seek opportunities in dangerous places.
A hint of worry flashed in his eyes the next second. There were undercurrents surging in the Magic City. Each Wizard Seed represents a force. It's not every day you can have a wizard seed with humble beginnings.
Those with such beginnings quickly found a big tree to hold on to, but he didn't know about the new wizard seed of the Silver Tower.
"As far as he knows, the girl Charlotte had come to watch the duel between the wizard seeds," he thought.
Martin had decided to remind the young man later. If a wizard seed goes outside, they would meet with many dangers. He thinks it's not the right time for Vincent Carey to leave the magic city.
If he goes outside, he knows the Black Tower won't let any opportunity slip away easily. Then he glanced at the corner desk before going toward his reception desk.
Time passed.
I have underestimated the vast land of the magic city and the satellite cities around it.
"There is actually a forbidden area between two satellite cities, but it's mentioned that only Physique-type wizards can survive in that place," I said in my heart.
I couldn't help but think of Jason Nicholson. I wonder what he is doing right now. But this forbidden zone is unrelated to my magic. I wanted to explore a place that could increase my understanding of gravity rule.
I don't think such places are easy to find. The other ruins mentioned in the book are suitable for Elemental and Bloodline Wizards.
Most of the ruins are related to these two magic powers. I couldn't help but wonder if the existence of several powerful wizard families under the magic city is due to these ruins.
This could explain why they have powerful wizards in each generation.
"Gasp," I took a sharp breath for a second.
What do you think?
