Chapter 637: Another Spy
Noah could only stand there in silence as Ah Shi walked towards the portal herself without paying attention to the chains.
The closer she got to the portal, the chains loosened their hold over her. Upon reaching the edge of the portal, she looked over her shoulder and mouthed 'goodbye' to Noah as the portal swallowed her body.
Woosh!
The surroundings returned to normal as Noah's eyes reverted back to their original state; the faded colors started to come back into sight.
But he silently stood in his spot, staring at the spot Ah Shi disappeared.
Xin Yan saw him suddenly going silent after he showed so many emotions and walked towards him.
She did not say anything and silently enveloped his hands in hers. Slowly she pulled him into a hug, and Noah allowed himself to be pulled.
After a moment, he separated and whispered, "We have to end whoever is behind all of this."
"I agree." Her blue eyes shone with cold determination, her jaws clenched, and her hands clenched as she saw the look in Noah's eyes. 'Whoever dares to make my Noah feel sad will have to pay with their lives.'
Noah turned his attention toward the weeping father on the ground and walked up to him.
"I know you would want to have a proper burial for your son, but this is a very vicious altar that has extracted their souls; so without freeing their souls, we cannot cremate or bury their bodies, or they might turn into evil spirits."
The magistrate snapped his bloodshot eyes towards Noah, "What do I have to do so my son can have a proper burial?"
Noah sighed heavily and looked back at all the bodies. "Call the families of those related to any of the thirteen bodies down here. I will tell everyone everything all at once."
The magistrate nodded and looked at a pretty shook-up guard standing at the entrance of the room and signaled him to follow the order.
The guard nodded and hurriedly left the place with pacing steps.
It did not take long before Noah and the rest could hear faint murmurs from the distance coming towards them.
A group of around 10 people entered the room and reacted the same way as the magistrate upon seeing their loved one lying there, lifeless and cut open.
Noah used his power to keep anyone from getting closer to the altar.
"I know that this is a very painful moment for everyone, but everyone must listen carefully to everything that I am about to say.
Then, he repeated everything he told the magistrate and continued, "I will be gathering all of the bodies in this temple until I have freed every one of their souls, and after that you can hold a funeral for those who have passed."
Their eyes were filled with doubt, hope, hesitation, and uncertainty, but seeing the state of their family members who had died, everyone agreed in unison.
"Please help us, immortal masters!"
Noah nodded and removed the bodies from the altar and arranged them on the ground in a row.
Once the altar was clear, he snapped his finger, and the flame he had conjured to light up the way flew towards it and burned everything wildly.
Woosh!
After watching dark red fumes coming from the flames, Noah looked at Ah Shi's body lying right beside her son's one last time before disappearing from the place with Xin Yan.
At the gates of the city, guards could be seen collecting corpses of the beasts that had been cleaved in half by what appeared to be a single big sword slash.
While everyone was busy with their work and moving heavy corpses, they failed to notice the sneaky movement of a guard who was trying to leave the area while making sure no one noticed him.
Swish!
Once out of sight, he rushed towards the wilderness and came to a stop once he reached the spot where the trees and the patches of grass could be seen covered in blood.
This was the same spot Noah saw the healer named Clara using the beast-attracting pill.
"All traces of the pills have vanished." The man muttered to himself as he moved around with surprisingly fast speed and ease.
"Should I go back? I was supposed to die in the beast tide according to the plan." Looking at the blood on the ground, the man appeared to be deep in thought.
So much so that he failed to notice the appearance of two other people behind him.
"And what plan might that be?" Hearing the unknown voice coming right behind him, the man froze for a second before he jumped forward while spinning in the air.
While midair, something flashed under his sleeves before something shot out of it, aiming for Noah's throat with a power that was way beyond the capabilities of a mortal.
Clang!
Noah did not even need to make a move, as thin needles that the guard shot bounced off his body as if they were made of rubber.
"What?" Shocked, the guard landed on the ground and looked at Noah with wariness.
"You are the guard who gave Ah Shi the news of the kidnapping of her son." Xin Yan immediately recognized the guard with a single glance.
"And he is also at the peak of the Qi Condensation realm, just like the so-called healer." Noah sneered at his attempts to kill him.
He took a step forward and directly appeared in front of the guard. "Looks like you have been targeting this town for a while. Don't worry, I won't torture you for any information."
The guard who got scared by Noah's fast movements that he could not even register now became confused hearing his words.
He wanted to commit suicide by shifting the qi flow in his body to run in reverse, but for some reason his own qi had gotten out of his control.
Noah provided no explanation and placed his hand on the head of the guard, causing his eyes to roll backward.
Seeing his body trembling and flailing under his grasp, Noah muttered to himself, "But the pain you will feel is your punishment, so it does not count as torture."
Seconds passed by, and the guard's body stopped twitching. Noah threw his body to the side as if he was throwing away some trash and turned towards Xin Yan.
"Anything?" She asked.
"There was a restriction on his soul." Before her expression could fall, Noah smirked, "But it was nothing for me."
"He is working for a demonic sect, which was obvious from the start, but whoever is in charge is very cautious."
Looking at the lifeless body on the ground, he added, "Even this guy does not know who he is working for. No names of the leader or the sect. He was an orphan like that woman named Clara, who had been trained by them from the start."
"So we have no information about their sect?" Xin Yan frowned in annoyance, but Noah shook his head.
"There is one piece of information that is very valuable." Noah's voice grew serious as he stepped closer to Xin Yan. "We have to leave before it's too late."
The seriousness in his tone startled Xin Yan; she could not help but wonder what kind of information Noah obtained from the spy. While she was thinking, their bodies dematerialized in the air, returning the area to its old silence.
What do you think?
