Chapter 2558: Adorable Umi
"Mhm. That's exactly it," I said as I tilted my head to meet Umi's gaze. "No pretenses, no expectations. Just us, however we want to be. You're part of that now, you know. This place is yours too."
Once again, her cheeks flushed as she lowered her head, her hair falling forward to curtain her face. "M-me? I… I don't know if I'm ready for that, senpai. I mean, this is your space, with your… your girls. I'm just…"
"Umi, you're my adorable junior. You're also special to me," I finished for her as I caressed her arm gently. "And that's more than enough. You don't have to be anything other than yourself here. No pressure, no comparisons. Just you, sitting here with me, stealing my heart with that shy smile of yours."
Her head snapped up. Her eyes filled with embarrassment and something warmer, deeper. "S-senpai! You can't just… say stuff like that! My heart's gonna explode!"
I laughed, leaning in closer, enough for us to catch each other's breath. Her eyes noticeably locked on my lips as she pressed hers together, wetting them gently.
"Good. Then we're even, because you're doing a number on mine too. Seriously, Umi, you've got no idea how much I'm enjoying this. Just us, no chaos, no interruptions. Of course, you have to tell me if you feel uncomfortable. And if you have something to talk about, I'll listen to you and give you my insight if you need one."
She bit her lip, her fingers twisting together in her lap as she tried to process my words.
Based on her minute bodily movements, she looked like she was debating whether to bolt or lean into the moment. Then, with a small, determined huff, she shifted closer, her arms wrapping from my side as she rested her head on my chest.
"Senpai… I keep trying to stay calm, to not get too… too caught up in you. But then you say things like that, and you look at me like… like you won't let anything bad happen to me. It's hard to keep my head straight."
I tilted my head, letting my grin soften into something more sincere. "You are someone special, Umi. I'll repeat this endlessly. You know how much I mean it. You make me want to slow down, to savor moments like this. That's not something I get every day, you know."
At that, Umi overheated. She buried her face in my chest to hide the flush that was surely burning her cheeks.
Her muffled voice came out, barely audible but laced with a mix of embarrassment and affection. "Senpai, you're gonna kill me with this… Stop being so perfect, okay? It's too much for my heart."
I chuckled softly, my hand finding its way to her hair, gently combing through the soft strands and then brushing against the big ribbon tying them. "Perfect? Nah, I'm just a guy who's lucky enough to be accepted by all of you despite my shamelessness. Remember, don't hesitate to tell me if you're uncomfortable."
She peeked up at me, her eyes glinting with a playful defiance despite the crimson hue still painting her face. "N-no. It's not uncomfortable at all. I… I like this. Even if it's overwhelming. Just… maybe give me a second to catch my breath?"
"A second? Alright," I nodded with an affectionate grin as I shifted slightly, letting her stay nestled against me, her warmth seeping through my uniform.
Umi's breathing gradually steadied and after a moment, she lifted her head, her hands still wrapped tightly around me. Her expression was softer now, less flustered but still carrying that quiet intensity that made her so captivating.
Earlier, I kissed her cheek, and she touched my lips. Then last week, I gave her lips a quick peck before seeing her off at the bus stop.
Now… can I still hold back? Absolutely not.
I lowered my head slightly, and Umi, understanding what I was aiming to do, closed her eyes and parted her lips, welcoming whatever was coming.
My hand moved from her back to her cheek, caressing it gently as I continued. I debated over claiming her lips fully or doing it as slowly as possible.
After a few seconds that she didn't feel anything, Umi partly opened one of her eyes, peeking at my hesitation.
She then tightened her hold on me despite her short limbs.
With that, my restraint loosened, shelving away the debate in my head as I kissed her.
I started it gently, a soft brush of our lips that conveyed the weight of Umi's quiet courage and the crumbling of my own restraint under her warmth. She inhaled softly before our lips fully overlapped, and I felt her fingers tighten against my uniform, anchoring herself to this moment.
The clubhouse, with its cozy couch and scattered bean bags, seemed to fade into the background, leaving just the two of us suspended in the golden glow filtering through the window.
I pulled back slightly, just enough to gauge her reaction, my thumb brushing her cheek as I searched her eyes. Umi's face was a canvas of crimson, her lips parted, her gaze flickering between embarrassment and something bolder, like she was daring herself to stay in this moment rather than retreat.
"S-senpai…" She affectionately whispered, her voice trembling but not with fear. More like she was overwhelmed by the intensity of her own feelings.
"Too much?" I asked softly as I put on my usual smile, ready to back off if she needed it. My hand stayed on her cheek, letting her know I wasn't going anywhere unless she told me to.
She shook her head quickly, her hair swaying with the motion, and a small, determined smile curved her lips.
"N-no… it's not too much. It's… nice. Really nice. I just… I didn't expect it to feel like this." Her fingers loosened their grip on my uniform, sliding back to my front and resting against my chest, where I was sure she could feel the steady thump of my heartbeat.
"Like what?" I teased, leaning in just enough to brush my nose against hers and stealing another peck on her lips, keeping the moment playful but intimate. "Come on, Umi, don't leave me hanging. What's going on in that head of yours?"
Her blush deepened and she hid her face on my chest again. And then, with a muffled voice, she said. "You're so mean, senpai! Making me say it… It's like… like my heart's gonna burst, but in a good way. Like I'm safe with you, even when I'm nervous. Does that make sense?"
I smilingly nodded as my hand slid to the back of her head, gently combing through her hair. "Yeah, it makes perfect sense. You're safe with me, Umi. Always. And for the record, you're doing a pretty good job of making my heart race too."
She peeked up at me, her eyes wide with disbelief, but the shy smile creeping back told me she was starting to believe it. "Really? You're not just saying that to make me feel better?"
"Of course not," I said, tapping her nose lightly with my finger, earning a tiny giggle from her. "Cross my heart. You've got this quiet magic about you, Umi. It's like… you don't even realize how much you affect me. That's your superpower."
Her giggle turned into a soft laugh, and she nudged at my chest playfully, though her hand lingered there, her fingers curling into the fabric. "Superpower? Senpai, you're so cheesy sometimes. But… I kinda like it. I love it. It feels like the first time I listened to Asahi's song."
"Her song, huh? Oh. Right. I promised to bring you to her. That will happen. Soon."
"Eh? Soon? What do you mean, senpai?"
"Let's keep it as a surprise, okay? When the time comes, I'll look for you and bring you somewhere Asahi… or Yue will be able to talk to you and Sumire, her avid fans, privately. I told you back then, right? She's happy to hear that you two love her music.
Umi blinked a few times as though still trying to shake off her disbelief. It's not the first time that she heard my connection to their favorite singer but the thought of being able to see her in person, without the distance of a fan and their idol, was still something she needed time to digest.
"See. You're adorable like this too," I teasingly said as I leaned in again, this time pressing a quick, featherlight kiss to her forehead. "By the way, I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon. You're stuck with me, cheesy lines and all."
With that, Umi's laughter filled the clubhouse, bright and unburdened, and she shifted to sit more comfortably against me, her head resting on my shoulder as her arms looped around my waist once again. The intimacy of the moment wasn't overwhelming for her anymore. It was natural, like she'd finally grasp the rhythm that belonged to just the two of us.
"Stuck with you, huh? I think I can live with that," She murmured as she showed me her most beautiful smile again.
Seeing that, my restraint disappeared for the second time, taking her lips for another round of passionate kisses wherein we had no plans of ending it without fully savoring this moment.
What do you think?
