Chapter 273: Do it in forty days or less
'Years? You can't take years. Fit it into… fine, forty days. Thirty days should be long enough, right? Even for—Even for mortals.'
Whispers caught herself just in time before saying "Even for humans". Those stupid, slow humans… Surely double the time was going to be enough for them?
'Forty days… It will take at least a dozen days just to find candidates…'
'Keep faith and follow your instructions. I will guide you every step of the way, Farini,' Whisper said authoritatively. 'Sign this order, and other faithful will start doing it in your stead.'
The instructions were given by Father… Her sisters would make it their priority—and the priority of other humans loyal to their "divine guardians".
'Yes,' Farini thought with an influx of conviction, and reached for his writing utensils. 'Even if it's just forty days, these healers might at least know the basics. I will do it.'

While Farini was still sick, it was mostly Whisper who was flying around, watching over his court and talking with other Agents.
After Farini passed the signed order to his Chancellor, the man was equally shocked, but obeyed anyway.
His thoughts were full of complaints about this order, which was impossible even without other problems of the province, but when he went home and shared those complaints with his beloved concubine, she told him that Farini wouldn't act without a plan… And that he was guided by the divine will, surely.
The Chancellor was one of the people who reacted too badly to foreign voices in their heads, but his mating partner was a devout follower of the "divine guardians". Whisper thought that this second-hand influence was an incredibly smooth and elegant way to control humans.
Not as secure as a direct control, but it still made her proud of her sisters.
Chancellor and other devout nobles in the court followed Farini's instructions, and posted a call for young, but smart and literate (puny humans, they couldn't even teach everybody to read, write and count!) men.
And women, Whisper made them add. Women weren't so necessary for the procreation of humans that they couldn't be Physicians, and the province needed all the potential candidates.
Soon, plenty of youths reported Farini's palace, drawn by the promise of a job and a salary. Or just a meal, in some cases.
Those who lied about being literate were weeded out, along with troublemakers and others who didn't carry the desire to work hard.
Their training began immediately after—but again, Farini's instructions left everybody shocked.
Instead of being trained by experienced doctors, these youths were going to be taught by some nobodies who weren't doctors at all!
Farini wrote a list of people himself from Whisper's words, and Whisper named loyal people who had enough sense to drill Father's instructions and Physicians' consultations into the students.
Even youths themselves were shocked that they were taught by ordinary servants alongside minor nobles of the court. But Farini (who got better by then and returned to work full time) was strict about this.
Everything has to be done as he ordered it! Anyone who had doubts about his authority was warned before they could even start serious plots.
More and more people became convinced that Farini had to be guided by some higher will—or how else could he be so perceptive? The same will must've been guiding his armies, because in the last days, they achieved victory after victory.
And the permission for free hunting filled the bellies of Farini's subjects, even if the relief was temporary. People were praising his name whenever he walked down the streets, despite some worrying about the next few years.
Whenever the generals of Upper Grazahmich thought they got armies of Lower Grazahmich pinned or unaware, Farini's general counterattacked with incredible precision and knowledge of enemy positions and ranks.
All thanks to the Bee Empire's Agents, of course.
Under Farini's personal guidance, the training of new healers progressed quickly. Humans were still lazy and slow compared to bees, but these youths at least tried.
They learned the importance of hygiene, how to deal with fevers, chills and other common symptoms of illnesses that were breaking out across the kingdom, and how to catalog all the illnesses they found for further research.
They still lacked the smarts and inborn understanding of research that Physician Bees had, but these young healers could treat sick people better than half of existing human healers.
And all of it not even in forty, but in thirty days!
At the same time, Farini's general sent a missive that the forces of Lower Grazahmich were not just thrown out of Upper Grazahmich, but forced to abandon several towns in the enemy province.
Meanwhile, other nearby provinces didn't dare to attack Upper Grazahmich, instead just sending token reinforcements to lord ma Ruchish and fortifying their own positions.
Now ma Ruchish's land was free for pillaging.
The High King has sent more reinforcements toward him, but by all reports, there wasn't enough to crush Farini for sure. The growing outbreaks of illnesses paralyzed trade, industry and military equally.
'What should I do?' Farini thought, reading the general's report. 'We could pillage that land and gather food for our own province, but this will leave commoners of the Lower Grazahmich starving in our stead! I lead the rebellion for their sake, too… I need their help to win! If these people rise as a part of my revolt, they can strengthen my numbers. Although they aren't trained soldiers and there isn't enough equipment for them…'
Whisper listened and replied from Farini's shoulder.
'Yes, this is all true. You must unite people first. Spread to them your knowledge about fighting the sicknesses, spread to them the divine will… And the High King will fall inevitably.'
The bee smiled. She was already anticipating the victories of her human! Especially since, while humans suffered from the rapid evolution of illnesses, the Bee Empire had overcome them long ago and was itself growing rapidly. It was preparing to take its place alongside humans.
Which was why Father gave her the next order to pass to Farini.
'But before you do all this, you must make a holy journey… a pilgrimage.'
What do you think?
