Chapter 30 - 30 30 Follow the Vine to Find the Puppet Master
30: Chapter 30: Follow the Vine to Find the Puppet Master 30: Chapter 30: Follow the Vine to Find the Puppet Master Jian Si opened the front door and stood frozen as she saw the scene inside, then she burst into laughter with a ‘pfft.’
Su Wan was hiding under the dining table, her fair little face covered in every color of marker.
Her body was full of paintball gun marks, not a spot left untouched.
Messy and dirtied, she looked like a famine-stricken refugee.
The once bright and spirited eyes now dull, reflecting complete despair.
This was Jian Si’s first time seeing Su Wan like this.
She didn’t want to laugh, but she couldn’t help it and doubled over in laughter, clutching her stomach in pain.
Looking like she was nearly driven mad by the two little ones, Su Wan ran over and embraced Jian Si’s arm, sobbing loudly.
“Wuwu, you’re finally back.
If you didn’t return, I’d be gone forever.”
Jian Si teased, “Didn’t you say you missed them?
This is great, giving you more time to play with them.”
Su Wan was on the verge of tears, “How could I have known they had so much energy?
It’s like they’re completely different after not seeing them for just one year, restless from morning until now.
I’ve never had to hide under a table in my life, but today it’s all over.”
Jian Si poked her forehead, “You indulge their mischief, and of course, they take it even further.
You need to learn to say no.”
Su Wan pouted, “But I just can’t bear to!”
Jian Si rolled her eyes at her, “Where are they?”
Su Wan replied listlessly, “They should be in their room.”
Dropping her bag, Jian Si found Jian Sichen and Jian Yue playing on the computer.
Seeing her return, the two kids dashed over and hugged her legs, “Mommy, you’re finally back.
We missed you so much.”
Jian Si glanced at the computer, realizing something, and knocked on Si Chen’s head.
“You rascal, if you dare to play tricks on your godmother again, I won’t be so lenient.”
Si Chen played dumb, “Mommy, what are you talking about?
We were just playing games with godmother, didn’t trick her.”
“Making her hide while you play games here, if that’s not tricking her, then what is?
Don’t think I’m unaware of the little scheming in your head.”
That son of hers was always full of sly ideas.
It must have been a deliberate ploy to make Su Wan hide with the pretense of playing with paintball guns while they secretly played on the computer, making Su Wan stay hidden and not dare to move.
Her clever little scheme exposed, Si Chen cheekily stuck out his tongue, whispering, “Just playing!
It’s like a welcome-back gift for godmother.”
“Hm?”
One short word, full of warning.
Si Chen immediately hung his head, not daring to make a sound anymore.
Jian Yue shook Jian Si’s arm, tilting her little head up, “Mommy, Mommy, how is Second Brother?
Now that you’re back, what about him?
Will he miss you?”
Jian Si pet her little head, “Don’t worry, he’s got your Daddy to keep him company, it’s fine!
Didn’t Mommy promise to take you to the amusement park tomorrow?
Go to bed early tonight, so we can leave early and play longer.”
Jian Yue’s eyes sparkled with anticipation, “Can we take Second Brother along?
I really want to see him.”
Without a second thought, Jian Si flat out refused, “No!
He looks exactly like Chenbao; they can’t meet, otherwise your Daddy will take you away from me.”
“Okay then,” Jian Yue replied, crestfallen.
Si Chen’s eyes mischievously twirled, “Why not just cover my face and I’m good to go?”
Jian Si looked at him incredulously, “How will you cover it?”
Si Chen pulled out a baseball cap and mask from the wardrobe, showing them off proudly, “I don’t believe he could recognize me with all this gear on.”
“…?”
Jian Si hesitated.
It seemed like a good idea.
But she was still a bit scared.
Tugging on her arm, Jian Yue cooed, “Mommy, I think it’s a great idea!
Please say yes!
We really miss him and want to see him.
I don’t look like them, so he definitely won’t recognize me.”
Jian Si was well aware of their longing for Xiao Bai, which was no less intense than her own.
After an inner struggle, she finally nodded in agreement.
“I can bring him over tomorrow, but Chenbao must keep his mask on at all times; if you can’t breathe, go to the bathroom to catch your breath.”
With her agreement, the two little ones were too excited to care about anything else and readily agreed to her condition.
“In that case, I need to return to Yuting Mansion tonight.
Tomorrow morning I’ll take Xiao Bai to the hospital for an IV, then bring him directly to the amusement park.
You go with your godmother, and remember, no more pranking her, got it?”
“Understood!”
“Roger that!”
The kids agreed cheerfully.
Once done discussing the outing, Jian Si moved on to the serious matter and recounted the entire incident of Xiao Bai’s asthma attack to Chenbao.
The children’s faces turned red with anger after hearing the story.
Especially Si Chen, with eyes blazing red, looked ready to kill.
“Someone dared to put honey in my brother’s soup; they’re really asking for trouble!
Mommy, don’t worry, I’ll find the person responsible.”
Jian Si said somberly, “I suspect Xiao Bai’s asthma isn’t a simple matter.
It’s possible that allergens have been repeatedly mixed into his food, and this is just the first time I’ve discovered it.”
While it’s true that failing to treat a cold or cough promptly could lead to asthma as a sequela, with Lu Youting’s status, the doctors treating Xiao Bai would certainly be top-notch.
The odds of such an occurrence were slim.
Unless someone did it deliberately.
Si Chen asked, “Mommy, what do you want me to do?”
Jian Si replied, “First, get the kitchen’s surveillance footage for me.
I need to find the perpetrator.”
Si Chen made an “OK” sign with his hand, then promptly sat at the computer and began working deftly.
To not disturb him, she took Jian Yue out of the room.
Si Chen was quick and efficient, and in just a short time, he completed the task, presenting it to Jian Si like treasure.
In the surveillance video, after she left the kitchen, a figure sneakily entered, glancing up to make sure the camera light was off, then poured a small bottle of clear liquid into the soup before vanishing without a trace.
The moment she looked up at the camera, Jian Si saw her face clearly, and her eyes widened in shock, filled with disbelief.
It was her—
Si Chen asked, “Mommy, should I copy the video for you as evidence of her crime?”
Jian Si nodded, “Good!
You’ve worked hard, my dear.”
Si Chen plugged a USB drive into the port and cut the relevant video portion, then dragged it into the drive.
Jian Si didn’t immediately tell Lu Youting about the incident but instead placed the USB drive in her bag.
Now that she knew who added the honey, she could follow the trail and use that person to find the mastermind behind the scenes.
What do you think?
