Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 484: I Lost

Being acknowledged by Metagross as “not bad” was already extremely rare—except for other Pokémon that also belonged to Julian.

Kartana was the first wild Pokémon to ever be praised by Metagross.

However, this so-called “praise” sounded entirely like mockery to Kartana.

'Damn it, you just stood there without moving while I slashed you two thousand times. In the end, my blade almost broke, and all you say is “not bad”?'

This is what it means to kill not just the body, but also the spirit.

While Kartana was furious inside, its will to surpass was also ignited.

It, Kartana—there was nothing it couldn’t cut. Even if its blade broke today, it would still slice that thing in half.

Its arm suddenly rose, a strong white light wrapped around its right arm, and waves of sharp aura filled the space hundreds of meters around Kartana.

Seeing cuts appear on his exposed palm, Julian’s expression changed slightly. He immediately landed on the ground and released Aggron to block in front of him.

Kartana had only just made an opening move, and as a human, Julian was already injured.

Looking up at Kartana’s surroundings, the air around it was constantly warping, and it sounded faintly like the scraping of metal.

Kartana: "Sacred Sword!"

The white light on its right arm suddenly extended to 40 meters long, forming a massive blade like a 40-meter greatsword—and beneath that blade was Metagross.

The overwhelming aura made the space around Metagross incredibly rigid. At this point, even if it tried to use Teleport to dodge, the move would certainly fail.

If it was any ordinary Pokémon, under this blade that seemed to be able to slash the soul, don’t even mention counterattacking—it would be a question whether they could even move their limbs.

Kartana: "Die."

With a slash, Sacred Sword split the air below. It was as if even space itself was being cut open, while the sharp aura kept spreading forward.

Sacred Sword gave Metagross sense a danger. This time, it wasn’t going to keep taking hits—doing so would lead to defeat.

A multicolored glow wrapped around its left hand. With a thunderous burst of air, Meteor Mash met Sacred Sword head-on.

BOOM!!

Accompanied by a deafening roar, shockwaves swept out like a hurricane. The trees below snapped like weeds and were blown away, instantly clearing the battlefield beneath them.

Aggron immediately turned around and shielded Julian in its arms, letting broken tree trunks slam into its back. For Aggron, this didn’t even count as a scratch.

Seeing as his full-power Sacred Sword was casually broken by Metagross and scattered into countless white lights that vanished into the air—

Kartana: "It’s not over yet."

'Even if I lose, I will leave a mark on you.'

Kartana: "Cut!"

Its right arm turned into a silver-white stream of light, drawing a beautiful arc through the air like a meteor at night, swift as lightning.

"Meta~"

Metagross’s body flashed slightly with a glow.

It was Iron Defense.

Clang!

Cut struck Metagross on the forehead, and a crisp metallic sound echoed throughout the field.

Then there was a click.

Kartana was overjoyed, thinking that it had chopped Metagross—but it failed to notice that there were no cracks on Metagross. It remained perfectly fine.

Metagross: "Take a look at yourself."

Hearing this, Kartana’s body trembled. It turned its gaze toward its own right arm in disbelief.

The right arm that once cut through anything now had visible cracks running through it—perhaps in the next second, it would completely shatter.

Kartana: "Why is this happening?"

Perhaps unable to accept what was in front of it, Kartana’s eyes turned red as it raised its right arm again to strike at Metagross.

'Even if I lose my arm, I will still make you suffer.'

This time, it had a more intense, desperate aura than before—an all-or-nothing determination. Under this aura, the cracks on its right arm kept increasing.

Yet it seemed unaffected. With this slash, its resolve had never been clearer.

'After I swing this blade, either I die or you do.'

With death transcended, the blade's momentum became even more terrifying, and there seemed to be an inaudible crack in the space.

“Metagross!” Julian shouted.

He was planning to capture Kartana, so he let Metagross evaluate the opponent’s strength—but not to the point where it would end up dead or disabled.

Now Kartana’s excellence had gone beyond Julian’s expectations, especially that spirit of “If I can’t cut down Metagross, I’ll die trying.”

Back in the day, wouldn’t that be the spirit of the top swordmasters and blade wielders?

Kartana’s desperate final swing may have been aimed at Metagross, but even Julian, standing below, felt a piercing pain in his mind.

Psychic erupted, and Kartana's blade stopped just within a finger's distance away from Metagross’s forehead.

Kartana: "I lost!"

It had poured all its strength, energy, and will into that final strike, and yet it still failed to harm Metagross, it didn't even a touch it.

Kartana’s body went limp and it fainted on the spot.

Crack... crack...

Cracks continued to spread across its right arm. If it continued, the arm would completely collapse in no time.

"Meta~"

Metagross brought the unconscious Kartana over to Julian.

Julian immediately took out the system's recovery potion and fed it to Kartana, finally stopping the collapse of its right arm.

But right now, its right arm was almost entirely covered in cracks—just a slight touch and it felt like it would shatter into countless fragments. Even with the system’s potion, healing this injury would take at least two to three months.

Julian didn’t immediately capture the unconscious Kartana. He wanted to wait until it woke up.

“Seems like a regular Poké Ball won’t work on it,” Julian muttered.

As an Ultra Beast, ordinary Poké Balls simply couldn’t capture it—only Ultra Balls would do.

Julian searched under the Poké Ball section in the system shop and found the Ultra Ball.

It was five thousand points each.

'Damn, that’s expensive.'

But no matter how expensive it was, he could only buy it—unless he didn’t want to capture Kartana anymore.

Not long after the battle ended, Pierce and the others finally arrived.

“Julian, are you okay?”

Jumping down from Pidgeot, Pierce hurriedly asked.

On their way over, they had already felt the shockwaves from the battle ahead.

They also ran into the injured Charizard.

So they knew clearly that Julian was fighting a powerful Pokémon.

“Don’t worry, I’m fine.”

Julian waved his hand. Aside from a few scratches on his palm from the earlier energy surge, he wasn’t injured elsewhere.

“That's the Pokémon that hurt my Charizard, right?”

Ember walked over, glaring angrily at the unconscious Kartana on the ground.

Then she looked at Julian: “You’re not planning on catching it, are you?”

Julian nodded: “Of course I am. It was strong enough to injure your Charizard like that. It’d be a waste not to catch it—and it’s a Steel type too.”

As soon as Ember heard that, she pouted angrily: “It was the one who ambushed it! My Charizard is very strong!”
