Steve’s eyes went wide now.
“What happened?”
I told him about the place I was sent to. About the ruined platform.
Steve listened without interrupting. When I finished, we both sat in silence for a moment.
Then I added, “The place I was in… I don’t think time flows there like it does here.”
He rubbed the back of his head. “Yeah, no kidding.”
I raised my hand and handed him his sword.
“Here.”
He nodded.
“Thanks.”
I glanced around and said,
“Go ahead. You can finish your evolution, I’ll keep watch.”
He gave another nod and walked a short distance down the branch, then sat cross-legged and closed his eyes.

I sat down on the branch and pulled up my status panel, ready to check everything before starting the evolution.
