Chapter 181 - 181 A Priceless Gift
181: A Priceless Gift 181: A Priceless Gift The grand library was bathed in soft, golden light that streamed through the tall windows, illuminating the countless shelves filled with books of every kind.
The scent of aged paper lingered in the air, mixed with the faint aroma of polished wood.
Raelynn stood near one of the towering bookshelves, her fingers skimming the spines as she searched for something new to read.
Her eyes sparkled with curiosity, occasionally stopping at a title before moving on.
She finally pulled out a thick novel, flipping it open to read the blurb, when a familiar voice echoed through the quiet library.
“Raelynn!” She peeked her head out from behind the bookshelf, her long hair falling over her shoulder as she spotted Reinhart near the entrance.
“Yes?” Reinhart’s shoulders relaxed in relief.
“You really are here.
I’ve been looking for you everywhere.” Raelynn raised a brow, clutching the book to her chest.
“What for?” He shrugged, a sheepish smile spreading across his face.
“Nothing really.
I just needed some company.
I’m bored out of my mind.” She chuckled, stepping out from the aisle.
“You do realize there’s not much fun to be had here with me, right?
This is a library.” Reinhart pouted slightly, kicking at the floor.
“It’s not like I had any other choice.” Raelynn squinted at him, playful suspicion in her eyes.
“What was that?” “Nothing!” Reinhart waved it off, but then muttered under his breath, “It’s just… I wanted to hang out with Hera, but she didn’t want to.” Raelynn’s interest piqued.
“What’s your deal with Hera anyway?” He blinked at her, then smirked.
“Isn’t it obvious?
We’re a couple.” She burst out laughing.
“Yeah, right.
Try again.” Before Reinhart could defend himself, a soft knock came from the library door.
Both of them turned just as Hera entered, pushing a tray filled with refreshments.
Her movements were graceful as always, though there was a hint of irritation when Reinhart bounded over to her.
“Wow, Hera!
You didn’t have to!” he exclaimed, eyeing the tray.
“This is for Raelynn,” Hera replied with cold tone, setting the tray on a nearby table.
“Ouch,” Reinhart winced, but then noticed there were two cups.
“But… there’s an extra cup?” Hera didn’t look at him.
“It’s a spare.
In case we can’t use the other one.” Raelynn tilted her head, amused.
Hera had never brought a spare cup before.
It was almost like she had known Reinhart would be here.
She smiled knowingly.
“Well, thank goodness for that.
Pour him some tea too, Hera.” Hera’s lips pressed into a thin line, but she did as Raelynn asked, pouring steaming tea into both cups.
Raelynn sat down, sipping her tea delicately while Reinhart slumped into the seat across from her.
He took a long gulp, then suddenly choked, coughing violently as his eyes widened.
“Reinhart?!” Raelynn jumped up, worried.
He pointed at her neck between coughs.
“Where—where did you get that necklace?!” She instinctively touched the delicate chain resting against her collarbone.
Her fingers brushed over the shimmering pendant that hung there—a soft blush creeping up her cheeks.
“Oh, this?
It was… a gift.” Reinhart’s jaw dropped.
“From my brother?” Raelynn hesitated before nodding, her blush deepening.
“Yeah.” “Wow.” Reinhart leaned back, clearly impressed.
“You know that’s not just some random necklace, right?” “I figured it wasn’t cheap, but…” She trailed off, glancing down at the pendant.
“I didn’t realize it was that special.” “It’s not just special.
It’s priceless,” Reinhart said, his tone serious now.
Her stomach twisted with nerves.
“Priceless?” Raelynn’s fingers trembled as they brushed over the pendant, the cool metal suddenly feeling heavier against her skin.
A part of her wanted to laugh—surely Reinhart was exaggerating.
But the way he said it, the seriousness in his tone, made her stomach twist with unease.
She had already suspected it wasn’t cheap, but priceless?
That was a whole other level.
Raelynn swallowed, her throat dry.
She had tried searching for the necklace online before, wanting to get an idea of its worth, but she hadn’t been able to find anything.
No matching images, no brand, no trace of it anywhere.
It was like the pendant didn’t exist outside of her possession.
That alone had been strange.
Now, hearing Reinhart’s words, a new thought struck her—Was it custom-made?
Did Elion have this designed specifically for her?
The idea sent a strange mix of warmth and apprehension flooding through her.
She wasn’t used to things like this.
She wasn’t used to being given something so extravagant, something that couldn’t even be priced.
It made her feel… out of place.
Like she was holding onto something that didn’t belong to her.
A part of her wanted to take it off immediately.
Not because she didn’t like it—because she did.
The pendant was beautiful, elegant, and felt oddly personal.
But knowing that it was something so valuable, something she couldn’t even begin to understand the worth of, made her hesitant to keep it.
“I-I don’t know if I can wear something so valuable,” she admitted, anxiety creeping in.
Reinhart sipped his tea again before grinning.
“Well, too late for that.
Just don’t lose it, okay?
Elion doesn’t give gifts like that to just anyone.” Did Reinhart have to say it like that?
She already felt overwhelmed knowing the pendant was expensive, but now he was implying it actually meant something?
Her ego didn’t need that kind of encouragement.
She exhaled slowly, pressing her fingers against the cool metal of the pendant, trying to keep herself grounded.
The last thing she needed was to start overanalyzing this.
It was just a gift.
A nice gift, sure.
But a gift nonetheless.
Elion was probably just in a good mood when he bought it.
That was all.
Right?
She shook her head slightly, trying to push away the ridiculous thoughts forming in her mind.
Reinhart was probably just teasing her, or maybe even exaggerating things to get a reaction.
That had to be it.
Because if she actually let herself believe that Elion had given this to her for some special reason, she was going to lose her mind.
Raelynn bit her lip, her heart fluttering for reasons she couldn’t quite name.
She smiled softly, feeling the weight of the pendant against her chest, now heavier with meaning.
“I’ll treasure it.” And not just because the pendant was expensive.
Not just because it was priceless.
That wasn’t what made it special.
What do you think?
