I've Become the King of Villains in the Game

Chapter 710: 450

Chapter 710: 450

The Guild Master posted a long message in the channel, and many members fell into silence after seeing it.

In fact, they all knew very well that the group of “gamers” was not only unpopular in the Anlong United Kingdom but also in the Tresor Empire and the other three great kingdoms, where being treated as cannon fodder and pawns was nothing unusual.

Only a very few lucky ones were regarded as “normal people” by their own Transcendent powers and were treated with respect and sufficient benefits.

For example, the players of the Circus troupe under the command of that NPC Governing Officer named Jack belonged to such lucky ones.

Players led by Polaris and Dongyang had been the center of attention since the public test began not only because they were among the first Transcendents, but also because they possessed many exclusive benefits that others envied…

The most important point was that Mr. Jack and the executives of the Circus greatly respected them.

“— President, how about after the war, we try to go to the Tresor Empire…”

“— Right! If possible, it would be best to join the Circus organization and seek refuge with Jack!”

“— Join them if we can’t beat them, huh? But I think it’s doable!”

“— Geez, we haven’t even finished the fight, and you’re already considering your next move. You don’t see how many people on the forum are eagerly wanting to join the Circus. For our entire guild, it would be good if ten people could get in…”

The Miracle Guild Master hiding in the barracks of the Bridgehead Fortress, along with the other two senior members, looked at the chat logs in the channel and exchanged a bitter smile.

They then sighed deeply again.

Besides the Miracle Guild, the other two guilds on the battlefield, Rock and Roll Paradise and White Horse Guild, had also received tasks from the military, instructing them to sacrifice their lives to detonate explosives.

Just like Miracle Guild, these two guilds also dared not refuse and made the same choice to accept the task of covering the rear. Thus, players from all three parties started to move from various locations, arriving in the underground areas where the explosives were buried within minutes of each other.

However, it did not take long for the group of players to stand agape in the dim environment, as they discovered that while the area was filled with powder kegs, not a single one could be detonated.

“Dammit! I don’t believe this is happening!”

A player from Rock and Roll Paradise threw down his torch and raised his right fist, which then lit up with a golden incandescent glow.

This was a Sequence Nine Transcendent from the Solar System.

Boom!

He smashed his fist down onto the powder keg in front of him. With a loud explosion, wood chips and debris flew everywhere, flames burst forth.

But the gunpowder scattered on the ground, even spraying onto the nearby players, simply would not explode.

“Ptui ptui ptui, this gunpowder can’t be fake, can it?!”

A player slapped away the black powder on his body and said in a disheveled manner.

“The sparks won’t light it, and even Transcendent powers can’t detonate it… Is the military messing with us?!”

The rest of the players, unwilling to fail their mission, tried every means, but oil flasks, torches, and even some explosives they carried with them… none could ignite the gunpowder. It was as if the barrels contained not gunpowder but sand, utterly indifferent to any attempts to provoke a reaction.

“General, the mission of the Undead Foreigners has failed.”

In the dark underground passage, the adjutant conveyed the bad news once again.

General Maiersa almost spit out a mouthful of old blood.

“Failed? Were they discovered by the Imperial Army?!”

“No… it’s not that, but the explosives there simply can’t be detonated. Even if lit with open flame, only the outer barrels burn, the gunpowder itself does not react at all.”

The adjutant stated the facts, but everyone in the military, including the general, found it utterly absurd.

General Maiersa quickly realized that something was wrong.

“Either we have a traitor inside who tampered with the explosives, or the enemy knew of the plan in advance and used some kind of Transcendent method…”

He clenched his teeth to speak.

“General, Ibrayin Your Majesty is a Constellation Saint, an expert in Divination and counter-Divination… Could it be that the Imperial Army has deployed a more powerful Transcendent that can elude His senses?”

A high-ranking military officer spoke solemnly beside the general.

General Maiersa’s frown deepened as his head buzzed with a myriad of doubts and bad news, leaving him breathless.

The surrounding military high command noticed the general’s silence, each developing an ominous premonition. They were suffocated by an oppressive atmosphere, each harboring suspicions and uncertainty about what terrible methods the Imperial Army might deploy next.

“Let’s go. Since the situation has become so dire, we must retreat to the interior of the Duchy first,” General Maiersa finally said and hastened his pace.

But before long, everyone felt a subterranean shaking, as the entire underground passage began to tremble violently.

Rumble rumble!!

“Protect the general!”

“Watch your head!”

The adjutant roared out, and the soldiers immediately shielded General Maiersa.

Scarcely a moment later, the trembling stopped, but all the officers and soldiers of the retreating units were draped in a thick layer of accumulated ash. Thankfully, the passage didn’t collapse, having been well-built; otherwise, they all would have found dying here ironic.

“General, are you alright?”

The adjutant supported Maiersa, asking with concern.

General Maiersa steadied himself with a hand on his hat, dusted himself off, let out a breath, and said with a shudder:
