"The second team match officially begins…"
With the announcement from the God System, the six participants— Lucy’s Team 2 and the cloaked figures of Team 11— vanished from the duel arena and were transported to the virtual battlefield for the second match.
The floating projection screen above the arena displayed the battleground: a large island surrounded by an endless ocean, complete with volcanoes, forests, lakes, grasslands, and teeming with wildlife.
-Random Battle Environment: Primal Isolated Island!
-No Time Limit.
-The bases for the Red and Blue Teams were located on opposite sides of the island. Victory could be achieved by either eliminating all members of the opposing team or destroying their base first.
-The match begins!
…
At the far end of the island, Team 11— led by the cloaked man known as Black One— found themselves in a valley. The system’s notifications appeared before them, along with the sight of their red spire base standing nearby. Black One’s expression lit up with excitement.
Unlike the previous match, this time the bases were not concealed, a major advantage for their strategy!
Knowing the enemy base’s location from the start was an enormous boon, especially for Sorcerers skilled in using portals and Mirror Dimension magic.
For them, it was a perfect setup:
Bypassing direct combat: They could hide in the Mirror Dimension, avoid enemy team members, and strike the base directly.
Utilizing portals: The vast island would shrink into insignificance, as the Sorcerers could move anywhere at will.
Creating uneven battles: With spatial manipulation, they could isolate enemies and fight with superior numbers.
Indeed, all three members of Team 11 were Sorcerers, or more precisely, former disciples of the Ancient One, who had since betrayed her and fallen to the Dark Dimension.
The leader, Black One, was none other than Kaecilius, once one of the Ancient One’s most talented students. His teammates, Black Two and Black Three were elite members of his faction.
Their goals for joining the tournament were twofold:
Claim the generous rewards offered by Carl’s nation.
Assess the current condition of their former master, the Ancient One.
"That woman… Is she still the flawless Sorcerer Supreme of old?"
Kaecilius's thoughts grew dark. He recalled the words of the Dark Dimension’s master:
"Without my permission, forcefully absorbing the Dark Dimension’s power will severely corrode the body and soul."
"By now, she must be riddled with flaws, her strength a shadow of its former self."
Shaking off his wandering thoughts, Kaecilius signaled to his two subordinates. Lifting his left hand, he pulled back his cloak to reveal the Sling Ring on his finger. With his right hand, he began to trace a circular motion in the air.
Sparks whirled into a glowing ring, and soon a portal to the Mirror Dimension opened before them.
This display of portal magic caused an uproar among the spectators outside the virtual battlefield.
Moments earlier, the Ancient One’s team had showcased this very skill. Yet here was Team 11, demonstrating the same technique!
"What’s going on?"
"Since when did portal-wielding Sorcerers become so common?"
The audience buzzed with astonishment. It seemed that the title of Sorcerer Supreme was no longer as exclusive as it once was.
"Are those also our people, Ancient One?" Doctor Strange exclaimed, his eyes wide with disbelief. He had known from the start that only three Kamar-Taj Sorcerers, including himself, had come to participate in the tournament.
But then why…
"Don’t talk nonsense!" Mordo’s dark face turned grim as his fists clenched tightly. He glared coldly at the projection screen, which showed the three Dark Sorcerers in action. "Our people? They’re nothing but lackeys who’ve fallen into darkness."
Seeing the Dark Sorcerers also using the Mirror Dimension, Mordo finally understood the Ancient One’s earlier instructions to pay attention to this match.
It was clear now— the traitors who had allied with the Dark Dimension had shown up.
Doctor Strange noticed Mordo’s agitation, deepening his own suspicions. This superpowered tournament might be uncovering hidden stories and figures from Kamar-Taj’s past.
"Be quiet and watch the match," The Ancient One said calmly, her expression serene. A single glance from her silenced the two disciples, forcing them to return their focus to the projection screen.
Inside the virtual island battlefield…
Kaecilius and his two subordinates moved cautiously and cunningly. They first entered the Mirror Dimension and used a portal to traverse to the opposite side of the large island, where the enemy base— a mirror replica— was located.
But when the three Dark Sorcerers arrived at Lucy’s Blue Team base in the Mirror Dimension, they were utterly stunned by what they saw.
The other side of the island was eerily empty, yet strangely unsettling. Despite the sunny weather, the temperature had plummeted below freezing. No animals ventured into this area.
A massive glacier loomed at the far end of the island, its pale blue surface sparkling under the sunlight. At the glacier's core, encased under ten meters of solid ice, was the spire representing the Blue Team’s base.
"No team members left to guard the base, and they just froze it solid instead?" Kaecilius stood frozen in disbelief.
"This… this can’t be serious. They are not playing fair."
Black Three hesitated to approach the frozen spire. As he stepped closer, the icy air chilled his shoes, frosting them over with a thin layer of ice. Startled, he quickly retreated to Kaecilius’s side.
"Boss, this glacier isn’t ordinary. Forget destroying it— even getting near it is hard. Even if we all used our magic whips together, it would probably take hours." Black Three gave his assessment.
"Let me try."
Black Two, skeptical, summoned a Fiery Blink Whip and lashed it at the glacier’s surface. The attack left only a faint white mark on the ice. Before the sparks from the whip could scatter, the freezing air turned them into shards of ice that fell to the ground.
This glacier wasn’t just absurdly tough— its temperature was terrifyingly low.
Black Three’s expression twitched as he revised his earlier statement. "I was wrong. Even with hours, we wouldn’t be able to destroy this thing."
Kaecilius fell silent, staring at the enormous glacier alongside his subordinates.
If they had known that the glacier was created by Lucy and that even the Celestial Ego had failed to destroy her ice after years of effort, they might have felt slightly better about their situation.
"Boss, since they’re not here, where did they go?" Black Two asked, looking around in confusion.
Kaecilius snapped back to his senses. His cold, calculating gaze swept past the dense forest in the direction of their own base.
"Where else? Obviously, they’re headed for our base!"
"Damn it, we’ve been played!"
Kaecilius gritted his teeth in frustration. By freezing their own base, Lucy’s team had completely countered their carefully planned strategy and stolen their early-game advantage.
Now, the Dark Sorcerers had only two options left:
One, Defend their base while defeating all the members of the opposing team.
Second, Surrender.
"They’re just a group of women. Follow me— we’ll fight them head-on!"
Kaecilius was barely holding back his rage as he led his subordinates into the forest, following Lucy’s trail in a desperate chase.
