Chapter 589: Governor Godwyn II
--
The Inter-Alliance Youth Competition...
It's a grand event that occurs every 50 years in the alliance. It's open to young experts, no more than 500 years old. The strength ceiling is set on the Grand Solar Sage Realm, and it takes place in the Virtual Universe.
"Yes, sir. The list of participants is complete. Here are the contestants." The speaker pushed a virtual list to Godwyn, which he perused carefully.
There were ten people listed here; all were outstanding young experts who were more than qualified to participate in this competition. The strongest of them all barely reached the Grand Solar Grandmaster Realm, but Godwyn has no complaints.
"Very well, it'd be these ten then." Godwyn didn't concern himself too much about the list. He was already satisfied that they had people to send there.
Everybody understood what he implied, and they shared the same idea.
Truth is, nobody was expecting too much from the people on this list. Their real goal is to have qualified people participate. In short, it's all for exposure.
Of course, if any of these kids attains surprising achievements during the competition, that would be awesome. But it also wouldn't be too surprising if they couldn't go very far.
One must understand the sheer scale of this tournament; it involves the whole alliance, including, of course, 'The Six.' Throughout history, the young experts of 'The Six' have always dominated the top rankings. The disparity has always been clear, and at this point, only a handful of people dare to think about usurping them.
More importantly, humanity still has a long way to go. Godwyn just wants to expose their existence to the public eye to boost their reputation. He also knows that, while the participants they had were impressive, they barely qualify to truly compete against those who were raised specifically for this event.
So long as any of them can reach the top 10,000 rankings, that's enough. Godwyn wouldn't be stingy in rewarding them.
"Alright, aside from business proposals and this upcoming event, anything else I need to know?" Godwyn asked his team.
"We would like to inform you that we're about a year away from having Theta and Talos reach their full potential," the speaker replied. "The other planets will still take time, but our team is working hard to complete everything within the schedule."
Theta and Talos were two of the ten planets humanity has successfully colonized. These planets were just slightly smaller than Prime Earth, but they're dense in rare resources.
Godwyn was already aware of this. Actually, he already knew it even before they discovered it, so he wasn't really surprised. Still, credit must be given when credit is due.
"Fantastic. Keep up the good work. Everybody who made this possible will be rewarded generously as soon as the results are out, you have my word for it."
"Thank you, sir." Everybody within the room became visibly excited.
How can they not be? Even scraps coming from Godwyn were an unparalleled treasure for them...okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but a bonus is a bonus. Nobody here was a charity worker. Colonizing an entire planet and having it reach its full potential requires tons of work and sometimes, sacrifices. Nobody would do such a thankless and rewardless task.
Working with Godwyn for a long time, everyone in this office knew that he was a man of his word. When he says that they would be 'generously' rewarded, emphasis on the word 'generously,' he truly means it. That alone makes this incredibly worth it already.
And truly, Godwyn wasn't a stingy governor. Even if he only gives them the 'appropriate' amount of rewards, it'd be equivalent to generosity to these people.
Godwyn has accumulated so many treasures, materials, and resources as he reigns as Solaris Prime's Governor that he essentially doesn't even know what to do with them. On top of this, there's also his father's stash—the pile he left behind before he passed the position to him, which remains untouched even now.
The Stormriders were simply too rich, so Godywn has no qualms about spending resources like a river if that means that his people will remain obedient and loyal.
"Is that all?"
"Yes, sir. That's all."
"Alright, meeting adjourned. Keep up the good work, team; we're heading in the right direction. I'll see you again soon."
After saying this, Godwyn promptly disappeared from the meeting room in the blink of an eye. As usual, none of his confidants could even follow his movements, though they're used to it at this point.
Godwyn reappeared in his room at the Sky Castle after concluding the meeting. He released a sigh before plopping down on his couch. His current appearance truly doesn't resemble the illustrious and wise governor of the Solaris Prime. Here, he's just another adult who just got home after a long day of work.
Staring at the ceiling, a bitter smile appeared on his face.
Despite his passion as Solaris Prime's governor, he couldn't deny that the position was truly demanding. He now understands why politicians age faster than most, especially after taking up their posts. All of this planning and workload really saps one's longevity away...not literally, but it's essentially the same thing.
But of course, there's no way that Godwyn will stop just because it's hard. His father already warned him that this was a heavy burden to carry and was initially reluctant to pass it to him. Yet it was Godwyn who insisted, and throughout the years, he proved his worth and dedication. Even his father freely admitted that he's way better at this than he was.
'If I hadn't been the governor, would I have joined the Inter-Alliance Youth Competition? 'Godwyn wondered to himself.
It wasn't that far-fetched, really. Godwyn was less than 500 years old, not even half, actually. And he's also at the Grand Solar Sage realm, which was within the competition's rules.
'Maybe...it could be fun,' he thought to himself.
He could participate in it with his brothers. And maybe, just maybe, they can reach the top 1000 rankings, bring great fame and fortune to Solaris Prime, humans, and, most importantly, themselves.
Alas, the allure just wasn't as attractive for Godwyn nor his brothers. They don't lack anything, and the alliance can't offer them anything that their father couldn't give to them.
Moreover, Godwyn's schedule was truly packed. He just doesn't have the time for it. Besides, it's just a competition. He's already confident that he could secure a decent ranking, and that's already enough.
'I'd have to leave again soon,' Godwyn mused to himself as he stared at the ceiling of his room. 'The envoys of the Mystic Faes would be in contact soon; that much is guaranteed. And since I don't conduct business meetings in Solaris Prime, I have to go to the nearest commercial planet in person to attend this, so I have to leave early.'
'After that, I'd have to pay a visit to our business partners. One is to make sure that they're not trying to skimp out on our orders, and two, to keep the relationship as warm as possible.'
According to his expectations, he'd be walking along factories and production areas for weeks very soon, so he had to be mentally prepared for that.
A groan escaped from his lips. Then, it was followed by a helpless sigh as Godwyn thought,
'Man, I need a girlfriend.'
Godwyn found himself thinking about this quite frequently these past few months. Maybe the exhaustion of his extended work periods was finally catching up to him, maybe it's the early signs of a burnout, or maybe he's just really fucking lonely...it can also be all of the above, but long story short, he needs company.
The team he spoke to earlier doesn't count. Although they're his friends outside of work, that's just it. The fair ladies on the team weren't that impressive in his eyes.
And even though he knows that those ladies were attracted to him, some of the bolder ones are even making a move on him, he doesn't particularly fancy any of them, so he maintains distance.
'How nice it would be to return home to a beautiful lady waiting for me. It would be something to look forward to, at least. Not a bleak and cold room like this! Ugh! '.
Godwyn wants a trophy wife, though he wouldn't necessarily say that out loud. The problem is, women who are willing to be trophy wives are very rare nowadays. Godwyn also wants a willing participant, not a forced or merely acquiescing lady.
'Ugh! 'Godwyn slapped his face gently to wake him up from his delusions. 'Forget it, maybe I just need to get laid; it's been a while, after all.'
If his mother or his aunts could hear his thoughts just now, they would be, of course, first and foremost, appalled. Then, they would sigh in defeat because, of course, Godwyn inherited Cedric's controlled yet very strong libido.
Well, so long as Godwyn uses protection to prevent any unwanted surprises and his partners are willing participants, then it's fine. He's a man now, after all. And it's not like they could stop him from doing what he wants.
What do you think?
