A white jade porcelain vase held a few orchids.

The orchids in the vase, originally rare white Yulan orchids, had changed color at night, turning from white to black. As the color of the flowers changed, so did the fragrance.
Normally, the fragrance of white Yulan orchids was pure and rich, clear and not muddled, with a sweet scent. However, the black orchids had an even denser fragrance, at first smell it seemed pleasant, but after a long exposure, it made one feel drowsy, as if drunk.
Feng Bailing, being a physician, was very sensitive to fragrances, so she didn’t smell them for long.
