Chapter 382 382: A Fool
Even though the vaccine only had a fifty to sixty percent chance of recovery, people still rushed to purchase it. For them, the vaccine was like the only straw that they could clutch onto when they were drowning. Thus, the military bases earned quite a lot of money.
Unfortunately, they hurried too much. The vaccine did help out a few people who were infected, but!
It also had a serious side effect. The one who was injected with the vaccine would end up getting paralysed. The situation soon became chaotic, and the military bases had no choice but to push the researcher who was in charge of developing the vaccine out.
In the end, this person was executed in front of the families who lost their loved ones.
Clearly, the ones in the wrong were the higher-ups of the military bases, but the one who was pushed out to take the blame was the poor doctor who only wanted to do something good for the people.
Bai Meiyue once heard from an insider that the researcher did try to stop the higher-ups from launching the vaccine, but those people were in a hurry. For the sake of providing the pills that could help the common people to awaken as ability users, they didn't even care about the side effects.
Even though they already knew about it, they still pushed the vaccine into the market. And yet the person who took the blame was the researcher who had done nothing wrong.
If it were up to her, she would have used all kinds of resources and nuclei to research until the chances rose to 99.999%. Of course, Bai Meiyue didn't care about such things. She had no intention of staying in this world after she was done levelling up. Once she got her hands on a new star, she was going to move there with her family and Little Cai Cai.
Who cared about what happened to this world? Those who wanted to lead this world to new glory should be the ones wondering about vaccines and whatnot.
Of course, if Doctor Cui wanted to research the vaccines, she could help him by providing the resources; there was nothing to worry about.
The road was really smooth, and there were no obstacles as they continued to drive past the lane. Not a single zombie could be seen on the road, as the entire street had already been cleared. When they arrived at the supermarket, which wasn't far from the building where they lived, Bai Meiyue could hear the ho ho of the zombies followed by loud bangs and shouting. Frowning, she turned to look at the front. She had no idea what was going on as the sky was murky red and she couldn't see things clearly at such a distance. She could only see a few soldiers who were blocking the road, shooting the zombies that were trying to break through the makeshift barricade that they had built.
Other than these soldiers, there were some more people, but Bai Meiyue couldn't see them clearly under the dim natural light.
"What's going on?" Shen Zhen asked while looking at the ruckus that was going on in front of them.
"I don't know," Bai Meiyue responded. She peered out of the window once again; and looked in the direction from where the noise was coming from. This time, she could see things much more clearly. It seemed like Bai Feng was the one in the team who was helping the soldiers clear up the zombies.
She arched a brow when she saw her half-brother killing the zombies. She turned to look at Bai Jixuan and asked, "Do you know something about this second brother?" How come Bai Feng rushed to help the soldiers without considering anything? Was he not worried that others would target him?
The higher-ups of the military bases were not someone who would leave someone as powerful as Bai Feng alone.
Bai Meiyue didn't believe that he was this foolish. Or was he?
"I heard that the new head of the base is willing to hand out some supplies in return for clearing this area." Bai Jixuan crossed his arms in front of him and stared at Bai Feng, who was leading the team of soldiers. "I just never thought that there would be someone so foolish that they would jump into such an obvious trap."
Bai Feng was not foolish. This was something that Bai Meiyue was sure of: there was only one possibility: he was sent here by Bai Qingshi and Bai Xue. Just how many useless people were they raising that they even pushed Bai Feng into such a disadvantageous position?
"I will go down and ask," Bai Zhan also frowned when he saw Bai Feng fighting such a losing battle.
He parked the RV on the side and then went down to talk with a soldier. Though Bai Zhan was gentle and kind, he could also be assertive when he wanted to be. Bai Meiyue and the rest watched as Bai Zhan chatted with the soldier and returned after a short while.
As soon as he returned, Bai Meiyue questioned, "What's going on?"
"Just like the last time. The troops are here to establish a safe zone for survivors. However, this time around, they had dissolved the condition of handing them more than one-third of our supplies. Now they are only expecting that we cooperate with them when we return."
"Cooperate on what?" Bai Jixuan asked. "I am not going to help them clear the zombies." He had seen what these people were capable of; he wasn't going to become someone like them.
"They are not asking you to," Bai Zhan turned and said to his brother. "They are only asking you to cooperate with them in taking your temperature and checking your vital signs after coming in contact with zombies."
"It's a reasonable request," stated Bai Meiyue as she glanced at the soldiers. It seemed like the person in charge was a smart one. They knew that there were some odd factors and didn't rush to cause trouble.
However, she was not scared. So what if this person was smart? She had her own ways to deal with them.
"Let's go."
What do you think?
